Tumblr will ban all adult content on December 17th

About this…

If you’re someone affected by the platform’s definition of what they’re going to be banning, I strongly suggest you back up your Tumblr blog. RIGHT NOW. Info on how to do that is here.

I can’t think why my own Tumblr would be affected, but I’ll be backing things up too… because in situations like this one might expect the algorithm to get a little out of hand and make mistakes that one might or might not be able to recover from. (See this article.)

For safety’s sake – because I’d very much dislike losing the content I’ve shared with other people here – I’l be embodying my Tumblr content in a new WordPress blog over the coming days. I’ll share the address here when it’s ready, for those who might be interested.

But in the meantime, seriously: friends and cousins, back yourselves up.

Seeing you bring up Gundam Wing occasionally made me reflect on the different team dynamics. In GW they are a team (officially in the last portion) but I don’t know about friends. They get along, work great together, then go their different ways in the end and that’s fine. VLD’s plot, meanwhile, literally hinges on them being besties and amazingly they not only regress in that as the series goes along, but I’m more inclined to believe the GW group as friends more than VLD’s.

I’d say GW’s team has a perpetual tension. Some because their personalities would never jive without external pressure forcing them to work together, and some because of events within the series. Despite that, by the end I did feel like the OVA follow-up was believable at least in the characterization sense: the five may (mostly) go their own ways, but at the first hint of trouble, they’d track each other down.

If some of them would likely always be watching for a knife in their back (metaphorically or literally), GW also made me believe each pilot was confident there were only four other people who could land that betrayal-shot. If it was a found family trope by any degree, it was more of the ‘I against my brother, my brother and I against the world’ kind of deal.

I’ve seen a similar dynamic in other Gundam series (and Macross has used it a few times), where two or more people who couldn’t be less alike, dislike or distrust each other more, and generally would rather punch each other than be seen together in public — and yet consistently they’re an unbeatable team. I’d figured out why a long time ago; it took seeing VLD to realize is how important that ingredient is.

I can already foresee all the praise for the new Marvel shows on Disney plus over the Netflix shows. Everyone will emphasize how the new shows are hopeful/optimistic/light-hearted/goofy/fun etc as though that makes them an outlier.

Because apparently being bombarded with multiple superhero films and TV shows every year that already fit that tone is insufficient.

i cant wait for ‘this is how superheroes should be’ to be said by EVERYONE

That’s probably what annoys me most about this push. It’s always framed as a defiant push against a supposed overwhelming number of more serious superhero films which simply don’t exist or don’t get anywhere near as much acclaim. The MCU was an outlier back in 2008 but times have changed. They’re the ones in control now.

You can’t brag endlessly about how films that follow a certain tone and formula are critically and commercially dominant while still framing it as though they’re the rebellious underdog fighting against an oppressive enemy that frankly doesn’t exist.

not to Rant on main but like…… elementary has everything fanon put into bbc sherlock. a sherlock that actually shows his genius via process instead of “““i’m really smart and u just have to know that””””. genuine emotional connection between holmes and watson. a credible moriarty. an empathetic sherlock who is willing to mentor those he sees potential in and is worried about doing the right thing instead of solving the crime just because he wants to show off how smart he is. sherlock growing and becoming a better person bc of watson’s influence and actually showing evidence of growth through his actions. A PROPER PORTRAYAL OF DRUG ADDICTION. the only reason elementary’s not as popular is because there’s no two average looking white twinks people can ship
