itsthighnoon:

Does anyone else just get like really stubbornly indifferent towards a popular character? Like you don’t feel hateful but you feel yourself giving less fucks and falling deeper into fuck deficit every time people gush about how great they are and its kinda like being at a party where everyone else is having a good time and you’re awkwardly standing in the corner with the underappreciated dog.

Can the next Silmarillion fan debate be pitting just the Valar against the Sindar (leaving the Noldor completely out of it), so I can be uncomfortably supporting both sides?

Because as a fan of the Iathrim I feel like I would have legitimate reasons to be upset at the Valar- more so than the usual reasons I see arguing against them.

Re: this – please tell me if you’ve ever mentioned me as ‘oh, I have this friend from Texas’. because that sounds hilarious, and I really hope the person you said this to imagined someone in cowboy boots and a big gallon hat (I have neither in my closet, but let’s pretend I do)

Eh, might as well

Preferred name: heget
Location: South Texas, USA
Favourite characters: I strongly dislike only about nine characters (all male Noldor elves), though my enthusiasm for other characters can vary from meh to my beloved. Definitely get excited over the Vanyar, the Lindar (Falmari, Sindar, Nandor), the Ainur, and most Edain – especially the people of Bór and Bëor. I lose interest the longer we dwell on the Second Age. Am likely to gush over very minor characters. And female characters.
Favourite relationships: Beren/Lúthien, Aegnor/Andreth, Thingol/Melian, Dior/Nimloth, Ingwë and Olwë with their wives, the Valar, Finarfin/Eärwen, Indis/Nerdanel, Idril/Tuor… I tend to ship canon het. I’m also a sucker for harmonious

sibling relationships and positive interactions between humans and elves (or Valar), so I’m especially fond of the Sons of Finarfin and the Bëorings.
Favourite story or part: Valaquenta and the Elves before arriving in Valinor, Beleriand before Morgoth’s return, Of Beren and Lúthien (and the Fifth Battle before it), Gondolin (less so after a few years), the War of Wrath, settling of Númenor, Gondor during the Kin-strife…
Fannish contributions: aside from the big contribution (The Sigil Project) and the less serious My Little Quendi fan-art, I do a little bit of regular fanart and have written a surprising large (to me) amount of fanfic. Aside from that, some causal meta, in particular the ‘Klingon Vanyar’, and things like assigning Rococo fashion to the Ainur. Engage Girdle.
An unpopular opinion(s): Many. That I find Maedhros appaling and un-heroic, and have little sympathy or interest in his brothers or father. That’s probably the big one. Defensive of Thingol and many female characters like Indis, Lúthien, and Elwing. The Vanyar aren’t Boring. The Noldor listening to Fëanor were making a monumentally bad decision. Sun and Moon >> Two Trees. Númenor, like most Atlantis parallels, tends to bore me.
Other interests: draw, write, read SF and fantasy and fanfic, show purebred dogs, used to be more involved in bonsai. Sorry, I’m terribly boring.
Other fandoms: that you’d find posts of on my blog? Rurouni Kenshin, limited ASoIaF, some other anime, tv shows, and book series. I’m not involved in most fandoms, though I’ll gladly ‘talk shop’ about them.
Other online hangouts: Usually I’m on tumblr, though I have an old Dreamwidth and while on hiatus from creating custom Sims 2 content can be found at the PB Keep.
Additional information: 28 years old, female. Not anywhere as assertive or bold as may appear online. Hates bacon.

Been a little over ten years since I first read The Silmarillion.
