That moment when you realize Bruce in BvS has to deal with the guilt of realizing he just helped kill someone else’s kid. Someone else’s kid who wore a silly cape and a bright costume and tried hard to make the world a better place. Someone else’s kid who he watched be put in the ground after watching them almost die by his own hands, and then actually die trying to help people. People who betrayed him.
That moment when you wonder if Bruce must think he’s as bad as the Joker for this.
But, by all means, keep making ‘’Martha’’ jokes.
Just thinking: After Clark’s death, Perry White probably thought, “Never should have sent that idealist into Gotham.”
Think of Clark Kent from his POV: idealistic and naive guy Perry sends to Gotham for a sports article, even warns him to be careful in the city. Instead, this softie gets obsessed with investigating a Gotham crime wave and standing up for the poor. Perry tries to shut it down, but Clark refuses and just disappears one day. Then, his girlfriend begs for a ride to Gotham for personal reasons (likely Clark got himself in trouble from Perry’s POV). Clark dies in Gotham during a massive fight involving the bat-criminal he was investigating.
Oh, you are going to be on the hotseat in there, Junebug. I grew up on a farm, I know how to wrestle a pig.
I absolutely love the character of Senator Finch. When I first saw the trailers I thought that she would be, at best, a stupid obstructive government bureaucrat, the type we’ve seen in a hundred movies before, who Lex would play like fiddle. Or, at worst, a strawman of “moral guardians” (or even a strawman of critics of MOS) a one-note antagonist with no redeeming features who hates the heroes no matter what they do – something else we’ve seen in a hundred movies before.
But she’s neither. She’s a smart, decent human being. She thinks Superman should be answerable to humanity, and she clearly fears him, what he can do and what he could potentially do, but she’s not paranoid nor does she let her fear rule her judgement. She sees straight through what Lex is trying to sell her and, despite her own reservations about Superman, sees the monster Lex really is and refuses to let him manipulate her.
It’s one of the many reasons I love Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. It took a character that in so many other movies would be portrayed as a one-note antagonist and made her a complex, likeable and sympathetic character.
And of course Holly Hunter plays her perfectly.
I’m not a cop, I’m a reporter.
#i swear to goodness #every single person who writes this extensive meta #about this hero and that hero #and how they clearly engage in social justice in their off time #look I love just about everyone #but Clark Kent Was The Original Social Justice Warrior #both in actual real life #like Superman radio drama helping to stop the KKK #and when it comes to who he fought #who his villains were half the time #and it’s here right here #so the next time i hear one more goddamn thing #about a Superman who isn’t trying to save people #I’m going to have to ask if the poor and disenfranchised don’t count as people #because he put his goddamn career #his fledgling career #on the line #and spoke those words #in canon #clark kent is the original fricking cinnamon bun #too good for this world #and i will not hear any more of this ‘unfeeling god’ bullshit #not in my house (via @yarnzipangirl)
Martha: “When you were a baby I used to lay by your crib at night listening to you breathe, it was hard for you, you struggled, and I worried all the time.”
Clark: “You worried the truth would come out.”
Martha: “No. The truth about you is beautiful, we saw that the moment we laid eyes on you. We knew that one day, the whole world would see that. I’m just…I’m worried they’ll take you away from me.”
Clark: I’m not going anywhere, mom. I promise.
