Although in the case of Finn fans I think we’re justified in feeling betrayed, as he was definitely the male lead in the first movie, and the trailer… really… sold us an idea, I think?

There was almost no Finn in the first trailer and they had edited him out of the SW Celebration poster, plus interviews rarely asking about him or clips stressing a sibling-like relationship w/ him and Rey- plus the knowledge that the set-up at the end of TFA was Rey off for Jedi stuff and thus Luke and Kylo, while Finn would be resistance- especially w/ Rose’s character introduced obviously as a love interest for him. I did foolishly think there would be more emphasis on Finn versus the First Order, fighting his past against them, the personal enmity, more of that Phasma vs Finn arc that was truncated in TFA (it was missing a third beat, and never would i have thought Finn vs Phasma be only one scene and a lame call-back joke to Han’s ‘Rebel Scum’ scene in Return of the Jedi – that was bad fanfic stuff). Still a betrayal- but I knew going in Finn would be done dirty and was warned he was reduced to mostly comic relief.

that is _impressive_, especially coming from a family that actually doesn’t get particularly enthusiastic about nativity displays and generally goes with minimalist 3 or 4 piece sets

also for some reason the bedazzled palm trees are just a bit… unsettling  (why are there palm trees that is not what date palms look like?)

There’s a more minimalist terra cotta set in the bathroom (still eight or so pieces), and the rubber duckie set. Partially it’s because my mother loathes decorating the Christmas tree with ornaments, and she’s a completionist figurine collector who loves Lenox dining china- she also has santas and the complete reindeer set and other holidays like Easter. So it’s much easier to just unbox and set up the nativity then unbox and hang ornaments, plus more ‘real meaning of christmas’ plus some strong narrative to organize how they are to be displayed by. The current Lenox nativity is a painted enamel look instead of just these enamel dots, but before they discontinued the line they branched out into the Town of Bethelhem for the weirder figurines like fish monger and dove seller. The palm tree was part of that- and my mom bough duplicates. And eh, when are creche scenes done with much accuracy anyway?

INDEED.

wgfebhlkmrhfbsdnjgtr I KNOW A LOT MORE NOW OK

And god, I was so wrong, but also a little right about some things hahaha

It is such a delightful post. And the rating of the nice butts cracks me up because without prompting~

I’m still giddily proud of myself that I convinced you to watch Under the Red Hood, and that you did enjoy it.

Well, you are just fantastic. You write stories…

I definitely think you’re a great friend! And I don’t think you’re nasty at all, as salty as I am at least, so if u r nasty then so am I ^^ my brother from across the sea!

I don’t think of it as a defining personality trait of mine – my vices definitely trend towards inconsiderateness and selfishness Big time. Not naive enough to think that there isn’t more than a few people who dislike me or my fannish options or how I express them -but I more readily believe I am just beneath most fans’ considerations or radars. I’m still surprised that people outside of my long-time mutuals actually read and enjoy my Silm fic.

The most amusing thing about this Teleri vibe we have is that going off of who loves the trees more, and who has to live near the ocean, is that I cannot claim to be the Eglath. I should be Olwë, not Elu or Elmo. ;p

the book in colored gel pens… heget…. u the best…

When the first thing I did was draw each rider and their brightly colored matching pegasus that had a color scheme with least two or three complementary colors? Because it was like I was designing this for a kids’ merchandise cartoon I swear that was the aesthetic (the squad leader was the older woman in mostly hot pink and coral orange, the rest of the squad was blue, purples, greens, yellows – the secretly evil twin sister was yellow-green with gray and red accents – her chapter was in red) Look it’s been almost twenty years and I lost those pages and the typed copy (though I think somewhere in the bottom of a chest is the saved drawing). But I had a large set of colored markers and an equally large collection of gel pens in middle school, and damn if I wasn’t going to use them.

which tolkien character liked which dc movie?

Oh damn, hmmm. I think Wonder Woman’s character going from her stand-alone to BvS and JL would be very popular with Galadriel and survivors from the Third Age. Actually WW would be a popular movie for Beleriand, that leaving paradise with optimism about defeating evil only to face the fact that the real world isn’t black and white but to have faith in goodness and try anyways and that she does defeat Morgoth Ares. That would be cathartic. Man of Steel, with its central message of an orphan boy sent to be fostered in a new place for his safety, the outsider looking for his people, trying to defend the home he knows, who is inexperienced because of youth…like damn, I want to show Túrin that movie and promise him there’s a happy ending. Tuor too. I think Tuor and Idril would make in-jokes comparing themselves to Lois and Clark. Then the self-sacrifice in BvS, he would understand that and to show him the funeral scenes and Bruce’s speech. I think Finrod would love them all, and Beren and Lúthien. And the Valar. Maybe Thorin and the other dwarves too.

Suicide Squad is a funny one, because the premise is people thought of as irredeemable by society are being manipulated as tools but those in power, and yet the squad is able to find fellowship in each other and do the right thing in spite of the world. If the Tolkien characters can look pass the punk rock sensibilities, modern craziness, and the gray morality of the protagonist characters, I think they could like it. I remember Túrin redeeming the outlaws, so I think there’s a chance. Maybe Beleg loves it?

I have that idea about Batman in general starting among the Balar refugees – widely popular at the start of the Second Age.

Green Lantern: the Animated Series is beautiful space adventures of Space Dad and Space Uncle babysitting their AI daughter and helping Angry Space Zuko work through his beautiful redemption arc and then the later two have this star-crossed lovers and not sure why but I can see some Third Age people (Elrond) loving it. Elrond and his brother are huge DC Shills.

Thingol loves and hates Under the Red Hood because of how Bruce doesn’t reconcile with his son and Jason doesn’t come home.

Aquaman is going to be widely popular. Ironically not just the Teleri- there are some Noldor princes, not naming names, that get a kick out of Arthur stopping Orm and gaining the kingship.

The central conceit of DC is Godly Powerful beings trying to be human, and the movies that reflect that (BvS especially in my opinion) would be very popular with the Ainur. Gandalf understands their hope.

“as a river, to the sea”, any pairing of your choice :)

That’s such a nice title, I need to use it for multiple things. But hmm, as a shippy fic?

Weirdly I think this could be a good title for a fic set during the Great Journey, because of the many crossing or lingering by great rivers, with the sea as the end goal. Unfortunately I can’t pick a perfect couple out of my cast of canon, OCs, and OCs in all but name with their textual ghost wives. Of the Sindar, weirdly I think I would have my best chance using Eöl’s parents, Eglath princess Egnith and her Noldor who stayed husband “Bao”. The river and sea pair-up could also work for the variation I want to do on Edrahil and Maiwë inspired by The Leithian Script.

Or for predictable tooth-rotting fluff utterly devoid of any plot, Arodreth and Alphen reborn in Alqualondë or Tol Eressëa, complaining about the rose garden in their seaside villa, aggressively parenting the rest of the reborn/returned comrades from Beleriand
