Like okay the actual canon art is sometimes amazing and depressingly often not. But the fanart~ there is so much, and so much of it so goood.
Also forever amused that fanart fixes the ‘same face’ problems of canon

Too bad we can get him bodyswapped in early first age, or you’d have a feanorian nodding eagerly in agreement when Angrod and Aegnor proposed fighting instead of holding a siege
Exactly!
Or oh man, I know I made a post a long time ago about a Túrin and Tuor swap places, but just think about Túrin/Maeglin body-swap. Idril reminds him of his sister, we laugh at the incest and not awkward in-jokes to canon. Túrin glares into Morgoth’s face and tries to take him down. Intentional displacing Orodreth and Brandir from power (poor Finduilas- she’d maybe be happy at first if Maeglin decides hey, Idril replacement that doesn’t hate me, but uugh). Wonder if Maeglin would like Mim…. Know the Haladim are screwed, if they don’t immediately kick Maeglin-in-Wildman’s body out of the forest.
And the swords! Damn i don’t think I’m the one to write this, but who do I need to pay to get it written?
Ooh, okay the second I saw Bed Sharing I immediately thought of how the big climatic moment in the story of “Of Ingwë Ingweron”
Post-Duel/during the Great Journey is when Ravennë finally, very publicly lies down on the sleeping pallet with Ingwë. It’s not exactly this trope, but it’s something well within my wheelhouse. The cliche abandoned cabin in the woods, one blanket fic was going strong when I first started reading fanfic, so I could probably do a formulaic version too for the Silm – Tuor and Voronwë on their way to Gondolin or Beren and Lúthien during their tour of the Deadly Nightshade that once was Dorthonion would be natural places to write it.
(Looks at the moments in fusion-universe Theon/Jeyne, be it the two moments in Hunter-bold or the passing out together right before Ancalagon goes crashing down – those count if there’s not actual bed?)
GenderBent AU -confession time. This is one of those tropes that don’t appeal to me. zilch, nada. Definitely not as a reader, so not really as a writer. I could try it, but I rather look at age-reversal AUs, something like DC Bombshells where the female characters replace the male characters in narrative importance, or any other type of AU instead. At most I could be comfortable with gender-bending a dwarven character because of canon leeway.
ouch!! 😦
*tiptoes away giggling*

Heget akzhslaha this is hella cute!
Thank you! I really need to make a stuffed animal and blankets and do a cute photoshoot or something. And make more. The Wonder Woman doll is still my favorite to use as a model. (I have so many red-heads right now, ugh just one brunette please! SW can’t have stolen all of them) I’m making up the patterns as I go, so the really ambitious projects are still pipe-dreams.

Very cute! And I just got my age of Arda anthology in the mail yesterday and I’m still crying over the pretty!
So much pretty! And I love the simple yet elaborate cover, hence its semi-permanent status as doll photo backdrop.
CUTE omg!!
Thank you! (I know that’s more the dolls than my clothing attempts- but white shirt #2 is so far no screw-ups). The dolls are $20 each so I really don’t need them all- but I do 😉 And I’m tempted to buy the much cheaper MH or EAH dolls just to attempt and practice repaints. I would love to be able to custom dolls- though I’d be torn between recreating the whole Justice League or making OCs and elves. (I don’t like the hands on the Disney Descendants dolls but they have the skin-tones to make Denishia, even if I draw her with a very wide face perfect with EAH. Because My two dream customs would be Deni and Faelindis)
Awww orome 😦
That chapter was a cheat because some of it I’d written as a meme reply a year before, but I thought that line especially was quality.
Another line- or at least the beginning of a line because the cadence is that song-like rhythm I seek to write, if from Survivor’s Guilt Coda:
“No stumbling numb and dumb and mad into a starlight glen…”
Okay, first I need to figure out what qualifies under ‘written this year’ to answer this. Posted to AO3 this year, but Swanships and the Indis/Nerdanel stuff was technically last year. So looking at everything, it’s the latest chapter of Of Ingwë, Making Friends, Howl, Promise You Won’t Forget, Eyes Bright with Honor. Also a few meme responses using the Batman(and other) inspired fantasy world (Rose Red) here and here. Or the Elwing meme answer where I channel GRRM in an acceptably safe way.
3. Which of your fics was most different from what you usually write?
Eeeeou… Cheap answer would be the second snippet from the Rose Red universe, because it’s almost solely dialogue but I tried to set up several characters and history and a world and magic system- but every paragraph is a new line in the conversation.
Or since it counts as a fic, sort of, this rambling unpolished Melkor does not enjoy “heget’s favorite AU” as much as I found here, because I wrote in the style of my blog posts, liberal use of parenthesis and snarky asides instead of ‘author’-voice. Aimed for bias-filtered POV and especially humor. I want to write more purely humor fluff fics as those are more popular, but I don’t write those as often for odd reasons.
I know which ones where imho less successful versions of my usual style or theme, but I think the silm fics have been very ‘me’ in tone and subject. That they’ve been parts of series helps.
6. What’s your favourite piece of dialogue you wrote this year?
Not a lot of dialogue in the few Silm fics this year. Making Friends has a lot, and I think Finwë’s prattle was more successful than the first draft versions. Chapter 5 of Of Ingwë is basically Oromë’s extended monologue, but my favorite line from that is:
“If my sister’s dance is the expression of joy indescribable, then the song of grief from Nienna was the expression of sorrow no words of mine can recount. Not even the poetry of my king can match the articulation of feeling.”
AGLAR AND FAELINETH HURT MY HEART 😥 I loved the seashell necklace bit btw!! Subtle but sweet ❤
Aglar will get his one-shot, though I’m not sure how much Faelineth will work into it. And in Release from Bondage Faelineth’s parts are (as of now) all off-screen.
Yes, subtle Westerling family crest
Beren had been courteous, if skittish. Consael had been charmed. >> ONE OF US ONE OF US
I loved those lines.
It was very organic how Consael’s story became about ‘ohshit Beren is too awesome y’all don’t even see it’. Especially because his connection to le Gaston Noldo and how Tolkien set up the contrast between Celegorm and Beren. And Beren’s Nan Dungortheb epic-ness shouldn’t be overlooked.
need to expand the Consael observes Beren in Nargothrond parts, and a little more about Aglar.
