Finrod

  • My NOTP for them – him/Curufin (peels skin off my face with my fingernails)
  • My BROTP for them – It’s Finrod, so like canon for EVERYBODY. But in particular and no particular order: Beren, Bëor, Andreth, Turgon, Haleth, Galadriel, the dwarves of Norgord and Belegost, the ten companions, the extended Edain populations of Beleriand, Olwë and all his Falmari cousins, Thingol, ….
  • My OTP for them – him/Amarië
  • My second choice pairing for them – oh dear… my other choices are all platonic
  • My fluffy pairing for them – young Finrod and Amarië hanging out as sweet dorks in Valmar, he’s the omnidisciplinary student questioning her about everything from color theory to how to milk a cow and she can’t believe (or care) that he’s a prince
  • My angsty pairing for themAmarië okay most of his friendships and deep emotional bonds with mortal men and dwarves is angsty by default
  • My favorite poly ship for them – I can see the appeal of a poly ship with him and Beren and Lúthien
  • My weirdest pairing for them – brainstorm just now – I wonder what his relationship with Aredhel was? Oddly, I think I could see it work, if she was interested in any of her cousins

melkomelko:

Royal Finrod. ok at least he’s trying to be kinda royal

but he’s like *to someone painting* “Hey aren’t you tired? we can take a break whenever you want.” “hey I’m pretty sure there are cookies in the cupboard out there, if you want” “seriously you’ve been standing by the canvas for an hour I am worried about your knee joints”

he’s a cute old granny mentally

selling his jewelry how dare U

yavieriel:

XDDD well I’m sure he wouldn’t sell anything with personal meaning, or like the Nauglamir (I mean I would kill to get all the behind-the-scenes on that Sotheby’s auction, but).

It is how he financed Nargothrond, though, so presumably he’d have assorted things that he didn’t mind selling – I actually get really grumpy about the fandom insistence that he’s a gaudy peacock with all his jewels, when what carrying jewels across the Helcaraxe really shows is that he actually planned ahead and was prepared for building a life in Middle-earth.

Historically, when banking wasn’t an option, you bought jewelry, since it could be counted on to hold its value reasonably well but also could be transported or liquidated relatively easily.  Land isn’t portable or easily liquidatable, and currency could be devalued or not accepted outside of the region it originated in.  His jewelry may not have helped while they were crossing the Grinding Ice, but it also wouldn’t have slowed them down, and once in Middle-earth it means Finrod has the wealth he needs to establish Nargothrond and maintain the largest kingdom in Beleriand.

And now I want Finrod being really clever with his wealth and infuriating Caranthir and Curufin because he always comes out ahead and they cannot figure out how he does it while still making everyone happy and being ridiculously generous.  And possibly Finrod reinventing a banking system and coinage in Beleriand.  Okay I just want Finrod-centric First Age macroeconomics fic I really like macroeconomics >.>  Someday I’ll study more about historical macroeconomics, there have to be books about this.

Aaaaaand that went off on a tangent, oops.
