A Hat Full of Sky

added to TBR | on my TBR | couldn’t finish it | did not enjoy | it was OK | liked it | loved it | favorite | not interested

With the Tiffany Aching books, I read Wintersmith, then Wee Free Men, finally found a copy of Hat Full of Sky much later, and then read the fourth book right after reading the last Beka Cooper novel and noticing the same ‘brand new guy is perfect love interest yet oddly same boring and vague artificial’ feeling. Therefore the Hiver plot always felt inferior to the Wintersmith, though the stuff with the other junior witches was good. But it always sits as the most forgettable of the young witch books for me. (And of Discworld, I’m more keen on the Watch, stand-alone City and Moist books, most Witch books, and loved Maurice and his Talking Rats)

maul is garbage omg i was so angry when he showed up in clone wars

YESssss~ And it was so unnecessary because I know he has fans but, uh, they didn’t need his character to return at all. Having the brother out for revenge worked perfectly fine to bring up all the old Obi-wan angst and plot points from TPM and was a more interesting character by default. Thank goodness for the Clone Wars for expanding the screen time and plot characterizations for Count Dooku and General Grievous (and who was just as if not even more interesting as the cut-and-run coughing cyborg villain we got in the movies than the animated “Bad-ass Untouchable Jedi-Killer” of the first animated Clone Wars cartoon). But Maul’s role in TPM was to be the red herring, to be Sidious’s brute dragon, to be the menacing violent threat as to kill and be killed and just enough backstory and depth to hint at that he was a child soldier sacrifice raised from early childhood by Sidious but still, he’s a flat character with a solid visual design and that’s it. I don’t care about his motivations, his revival was beyond stupid, and it killed my interest in the tv show.

i stopped caring who the silmarils rightfully belong to years ago and it made my life so much easier lmao. also dior is hardly a problematic fave, he’s wonderful 😉

It was never a question to me, but then such a large part of fandom beating that drum to castigate Beren, Lúthien, Dior, Thingol, Elwing, the Valar… *ugh* shut up. Let’s ask the Silmarils who they want to belong to, hmm? Oh, they are fine with everyone above but burn the flesh of Morgoth, Maedhros, and Maglor? Debate answered, the jewels stay with who they want to be with. ;p

It feels slightly like I’m back two years ago when this upset me more, before I completely cut off the fandom elements I was trying to keep out.

First reading of the book I came out wanting more of and adoring Dior. So sad this isn’t a frequently common reaction. Alas Tolkien, would it have killed you to give us any more info about the first half-elven?

I feel u – My one aegnor/andreth fic (which isn’t even that focused on the ship) has a bizarrely high number of hits, none of my other fics even come close. It doesn’t have the same ratio of kudos tho, so maybe people thought it wasn’t shippy enough?

yeah, it’s technically ‘baby fic’, so i guess it’s really shippy (though the hypothetically prequel to this would be the Andreth coming back from Dor-lómin is stuck with Aegnor as escort, things are very awkward and sexually tense – by end of trip screw it they’re married, cue Angrod and Boromir “Why the hell did you two do?”) Any of my fics with Maglor and the other Fëanorians tend to get high number of hits, but most kudos to any fic w/ Andreth obliquely. (and on AO3 the shorter Thingol fics, oddly enough). But this was surprising just how quickly all the hits and likes came.

IT IS SO FUCKING UGLY I HATE IT SO MUCH ARGUIALRJNALKJ TBER;ADSF *ahem hi*

IT IS A TERRIBLE IMPLEMENTATION OF I’M NOT EVEN SURE WHAT IT WAS SUPPOSED TO ADD. OUR ICONS BEFORE OUR URLS? LIKE – WHAT THE FUCK REBLOGGING ANYTHING TO AN ORIGINAL POST IS FUCKED UP NOW

LEGIT FEAR

happy birthday my dear! from your other posts it sounds like you’re having a pretty good day, and i’m glad <3

Today was a good day (not that it felt birthday-y at all until I got on tumblr tonight to answer people and flail happily from beta feedback). Got my pillow (there’s a sisterly squabble saga), a ton of vader-themed t-shirts, and a pair of elephant earrings as part of my gifts (and bought a new flat griddle to make grilled sandwiches – exciting adult present purchasing is …its own definition of exciting). On a little bit of a sugar high from the tiramisu cake tbh.

I hope tomorrow is a good day for you!
