A lot of sitcoms and especially cop/law dramas. I used to watch CSI (the original) for the first couple seasons during college, but shows like Law & Order – bleuch. I’ve little interest in most television, to be honest, even stuff most people like or shows I should like/get a chance to. A lot of popular comedies and tumblr favs I will never watch or plan to. Sherlock, for instance. Buffy.
2. A selection of musical artists you do not care for.
ACDC. I listen(ed) to a lot of metal, which might surprise people, but I’m picky. Metallica is one of those where I hate a lot of their songs yet another song ranks in my top favorite. Child of the early late Nighties/Noughties, so it was Alt-Rock and NuGrunge instead of Hair Metal or the really heavy Hard Metal. At heart I’m a Symphonic Rock and Baroque Pop gal. I can’t stand most shoe-gaze emo music. Or male singers where I could be crude but let’s just say it sounds like puberty hasn’t hit yet. Lot of Dub-step, I can’t get past the lyrics to a lot of rap artists. I only like ‘crossover’ country; it’s something I have had to develop a tolerance for.
But Tejano~ I’m sorry, Corpus Christi, but even two decades living down here and noooo~ The accordion polka is still as distractedly awful as the first time I heard it and I don’t care how ground-breaking Selena was.
15. A habit you have that other people bug you over.
Lots- but the one I got teased the most about growing up is that I mumble. Terribly.
19. A celebrity crush that maybe even you don’t understand.
One that I have? Crap. I can list those other people have that confuse me but I don’t actively obsess over celebs. I am embarrassed how attractive I find Nicholas Hoult in his various films- even when I don’t immediately recognize that’s why. But that’s one of my types, so not surprised.
Thomas Haden Church should not be attractive, but for some reason in this AMC Western, Broken Trail, he was?
I find Melkor and Sauron fulfilling as their roles as the overarching villains for the First and Third Age (Second Age, as always, bores me unless we are speaking of Valinor, and Numenor is meh sink it and Sauron/Annatar in his Lord of Gifts and then evil priest to corrupt the temple to idolatry and devil worship as the prophets gnash their teeth and flee … yeah, no, werewolf necromancer Thú who gets his ass kicked by Beren, Huan, and Lúthien is far more interesting to me, which is a contrary opinion in this fandom I see). But in and of themselves as characters? BLAH. And the fanon ship built up around them, fluffy or otherwise?
There is nothing appealing or interesting, except for some superficially pretty art.
Not that I don’t ship villains and adore Unholy Matrimony Couples. But Angbang? It’s not a NOTP merely because I don’t have investments into those two to care about their mis-characterizations.

Whatcha Gonna Call It?has a surprising 47 kudos, and I still have notices that come in with another kudo on this story once a month or so. The next contenders sit at just above or around the 20 mark.
3. Your Oldest Fanfic:
Published online? While I didn’t post it to AO3 first, In the Camps of the Bóris my oldest Silm fic. It’s not the oldest idea, and my original fic I posted on my very old Livejournal back when I was in high school have some fusions in their roots, some closer to the surface than others. Hold Fast Ere Night Comes in closer in spirit, though, being the second published and idea-conception-wise very old. And thus the first to A03.
Sophie’s Choice, why don’t ya’ … While it might be a toss-up between the Bór series and the Ingwë of Cuiviénen for overlooked or more unique spotlight shining – I’m not the only Silm fic writer to focus on the People of Bór or the Vanyar or even pre-Journey Ingwë, it’s not like there’s a lot of those fic to go around. Or fic focused on the Falmari or Sindar especially pre-Darkening. The various ones loosely dealing with the Bëor, be it Brides of Death or Hold Fast or even Neighborhood Watch/Boromir and the Swamps which are more defenses of Finrod+Bëorians, I really like because they are these stubborn bittersweet celebrations of that generational friendship between Nóm and his brothers to the decedents of Bëor. But as a fic? To be honestRelease from Bondage has some of imho my strongest lines and it’s the longest and beta’ed and it combines my ‘make you cry over OCs’ of the Red Band series plus ‘fusions of other canon to make said OCs’ which is something I find incredibly fun and where I can fuse or reference other canon and make it correlate to Silm canon is something that I get very smug and proud over (see examples of…way too much of my stuff) with a pov, place, and time period not covered to death in Silm fic, which is my MO goal.
I do fusions instead of crossovers, some of which I only note in author’s notes. If I could get around to writing it, the Vagabond Gondor would trump all others in personal appeal. but by AO3, Bull and the Tides is more popular via kudos than Release from Bondage – length and format being part of that, no doubt. And as I haven’t finished the otherBand of the Red Handthat are crossover-fusion characters like the Girls of Minas Tirth, these three are the only fusion-conceived OCs in my Silm fic.
I adore writing from the snarky pov of my Angrod and various Bëor. Same with Faron. As far as characters, Elu was surprisingly easy for me and coming up in fic over and over. Young versions of him and Ingwë in Cuiviénen, but that’s probably half because of the setting and world-building. I love Edhellos and Ilsë. And Bledda and his mother.
But writing the Ainur, to be honest. Because either I make them as wink-nudge-present as metaphoric description (the end of the latest chapter of
Release from Bondage) or Melian or Oromë where I go from very human to science jokes to pile on the descriptors and metaphors.

Okay, this was hard because my WIPs are either the next chapters of stuff that are more than seven pages long – thus the WIP parts don’t start on the seventh page- or are less than seven pages. So I’m cheating:

“Fëanorians, we know,” Faron interrupted. “Always them, whenever news came to Angband of elves killed and cities destroyed when Morgoth wasn’t to blame. Made him happy, the Dark Lord and his Balrogs. Laughed about it.”

He wouldn’t remember his mother-name, Costawë, for his mother foresaw he would live a life surrounded by strife, though she could never have imagined the fighting he would do against monsters out of half-told nightmares in a strange and distant land. Nor would she have approved, a devout Vanyar who passed down her bright yellow hair to her half-Noldor son. He won’t remember how rare that yellow hair is for elves in this land, a color naturally possessed, with only a few exceptions, by the sons and daughters of the line of Finarfin, the third branch of royalty of the House of Finwë. The cruel lord that had captured Costawë and imprisoned him in the dungeon of Tol-in-Gaurhoth was confused by that yellow hair, uncertain if this lowly soldier was a prince or not. The other blond, the one that dueled songs of power against the lord of Tol-in-Gaurhoth, Sauron was almost certain was one of the remaining sons of Finarfin, though the devious mind of the dark Maia could not comprehend why a king would be here with such a small company disguised as orcs trying to bypass the island going north. Sauron remembered the elven lord he had stolen the isle of Tol Sirion from, the one he overthrew to make this white tower into the den of werewolves. Neither of the blonde elves now imprisoned in Sauron’s dungeons matched the glimpse of the fleeing Lord Orodreth.
Everything is Star Wars and all the emotions and fannish feelings from over a decade ago are still here (And Thrawn and Mara Jade are no longer canon!)

Holidays have not been a family disaster – sure the two that can be walking on eggshells to be around have at various points been nasty enough as to damper enjoyment, but compared to the high stress misery this time of year can be, it wasn’t so bad.
I’m still getting kudos for my Silm fics and the response to the ones centered around original characters have been positive.
Another New Years Concert from Vienna coming up, so let me mention how much cello music and especially Strauss waltzes make me ridiculously happy.

First of all, as some who has run through the wilderness of Montana (that counts) – we are wearing pairs of shoes. We can walk barefoot while visiting my grandma’s garden in Seattle, but only in the summer, and because she doesn’t mind guest and her garden is full of berries and grapes and stuff to eat. Any further north or winter and we cover our feet with socks and shoes.
Jess, if you have never eaten tamales, I must insist.
Well, most of my dash I think are CINNAMON rolls (wait. is that why?)
