The doom lies in yourself, not in your name

Thingol, in a letter to her daughter and husband trying not to sound desperate bout turin’s pre-teen angst, and in a very round about way basically asks ‘what do I do’ and Beren just stands up looks dramatically into the sunset and is like ‘my time has come’ and basically writes the first book on mannish puberty by accident (laws and customs of the eldar….where is my laws and customs of the edian? it could have been finrod’s retirement idea)
“MY TIME HAS COME” adjhvksjdkxvd
heyooooo this is actually, the best tol galen retirement project of all. IN THIS CHAPTER I COMPARE: MY RUMORED ADOPTED BROTHER-IN-LAW. MY SON. MY WIFE. ME. HOW SIMILAR AND DISSIMILAR ARE THE FIRST AND SECONDBORN? MY THESIS IS—
Then Taur-na-Fuin entangled my feet / in its mazes enmeshed; and madness took me / that I wandered witless, unwary stumbling / and beating the boles of the brooding pines / in idle anger – and the Orcs heard me. / They were camped in a clearing, that close at hand / by mercy I missed. Their marching road / is beaten broad through the black shadows / by wizardry warded from wandering Elves; / but dread they know of the Deadly Nightshade, / and in haste only do they hie that way.

boromir vs turin
Oh, gut feeling for a fight? I want to say Túrin, but feel I might be selling Boromir short, and okay Boromir is the prince-in-all-but-name, a general and fighter focused on that, of a kingdom that is on its long decline and basically founded as a post-apocalyptic kingdom whereas Túrin has a magic sword and some nice armor and periodically goes between homeless outlaw and full-supported with gear and support elven prince-in-all-but-mortality-status, and for all the glory of the First Age setting, it is in the past and there is technological and straight knowledge advances in Tolkien’s universe, if muted by that post-apoc slow decline underlying narrative thread. And I compare what are their fighting experiences, orcs versus orcs, their armor and weaponry, living their entire lives during a state of war…
But I look narratively, the curse and all, Túrin is going to kill Boromir if the two have the sort of misunderstanding that leads to them fighting. Boromir is the sacrificial lion, the good friend and ally that fails to save Túrin and himself from the Doom. That’s their respective roles in stories. Boromir’s passing will be mourned and regretted, and Gurthang will sing of Boromir the Bold to twist the knife when Túrin under a new false name runs into Faramir and Denethor for that dramatic irony. It all fits.

teachers day: Nellas teaching Túrin about important things
(also abdjsahja obrigada!!!)

17th of April of 2017 – the Children of Húrin completes a 10 year anniversary since its first edition was published :’) It’s my favorite book so I wanted do to something to celebrate, even if all I had time to do was a hurried up sketch!

Too bad we can get him bodyswapped in early first age, or you’d have a feanorian nodding eagerly in agreement when Angrod and Aegnor proposed fighting instead of holding a siege
Exactly!
Or oh man, I know I made a post a long time ago about a Túrin and Tuor swap places, but just think about Túrin/Maeglin body-swap. Idril reminds him of his sister, we laugh at the incest and not awkward in-jokes to canon. Túrin glares into Morgoth’s face and tries to take him down. Intentional displacing Orodreth and Brandir from power (poor Finduilas- she’d maybe be happy at first if Maeglin decides hey, Idril replacement that doesn’t hate me, but uugh). Wonder if Maeglin would like Mim…. Know the Haladim are screwed, if they don’t immediately kick Maeglin-in-Wildman’s body out of the forest.
And the swords! Damn i don’t think I’m the one to write this, but who do I need to pay to get it written?
oh man, turin bodyswap with ANYONE has so much comedy potential
I only want it as a crack fic because if I make fun of people in Túrin’s circumstances and keep it to black humor, it makes the tragedy bearable. But the sad thing is I’m firmly convinced swap most Noldor princes and quite a few others out with Túrin and they’s make a worse mess of that curse or accomplish less. And yet Túrin has the kinder heart and better morals, even with his ‘you tried but fucked it all up’ gold star and his temper, that he would be so much better for Beleriand than the terrible seven.
