In other news, my new outfits for my Starfire doll are coming along nicely. Bought micro-glitter to spruce up the underskirt layer of the dress I made for her and now working on ribbon trim for the overcoat. I’ll tray to take photos today of all my dolls and some of the outfits I’ve made, plus the two I’ve re-rooted (and the baby-steps to repainted faces)

Sally Beauty sells Remi hair pretty cheap, if you want something nicer. Well, cheap if you’re only buying one pack.
yeah this was an ‘attempt to see if i could’. I really want a Jessica Cruz, or at least another that isn’t a blonde or redhead, but that would mean sacrificing a Wonder Woman, and the two dolls actually have slightly different head molds and paint jobs (and even if I didn’t say “Donna Troy”, black hair and blue eyes is a DC default), unlike duplicate Ivy (still deciding who she now resembles, not to mention frankly the default Ivy looks more a Mera – I like my Pam Isley with a greenish tint skintone) or Supergirl/”Stephanie”. So i can live w/out immediately customizing one to differentiate. -this whole thing is a back and forth between completionist collecting and hobby dabbling in customizing…
doesn’t help that artists can’t stay consistent with Jessica’s hair color
I don’t want to tally how many needles I’ve gone through (though switching to a size 7 even though it bends in the handle it doesn’t snap the prongs as often) and I’m going to sort of half-ass a bit of a hair part because I can’t where the original is (glue patch-job is mostly holding). However Ivy looks so much better as a strawberry blonde – her eyebrows match now – even if it’s just the cheap store-bought stuff.
Ugh. Attempting my first reroot, and having broken about 6 needles and then the head splitting when i tried to fill in the hair part line. Beginners issues I suppose. Not giving up yet.
Sewing doll updates:
- Red/blue plaid puffy babydoll top/shorts for Supergirl- done
- Short tartan nightgown (as of right now for Batgirl because why not)- done
- Finished the black and yellow print summer pajama set for Bumblebee (the ruffles were a pain)
- Long-sleeve ragline white/green top – done. Realized it’s long enough to be a sleepshirt on its own, so planning to make a second short-sleeve t-shirt to go with pajama bottoms. Currently hemming long green pajama bottoms. Add Green Lantern logo to t-shirt after I make it. Be sad I don’t have a Jessica Cruz doll. Debate buying a second Wonder Woman and instead of calling her Donna Troy, reroot with either solid black or brown and try to repaint eyes green or brown. “GL” set will work for one of the Ivy and Starfire.
- Wonder Woman’s psuedo Ancient Greek white and gold nightie based off the webisode- a nightmare, but almost done. Glue drying.
- Plans for at least one more Batman-esque themed nightgown, one long white frothy one, and then to finish the red dress and see if I can start the secret Halloween project.
- Also finally repainted the lips and redid the eyebrows of the first Supergirl doll so her face doesn’t look identical to Super of Krypton. “Stephanie” can rejoin the group.
So I’ve been sewing doll clothes as my stress relief for this week (hey, having to do everything via hand-stitch means those long straight seams, while tediously annoying, are just enough to keep me occupied during lunch breaks). And they’re been going out really cute! I want to wait until I have the set finished, but my theme has been to try to make a nightgown or pajama set for each one, vaguely on theme with what fabric and patterns I have. (alas, for all my purple, it’s all calico instead of a nice stretch fabric, so poor Kori.) maybe I’ll try to also make a small-scale pillow or two for set dressing, but hopefully some low quality iPhone pictures of the outfits by this Sunday.
Ivy cosplaying as Kamiya Kaoru. The wig is the second attempt I did a few days after the first wig, and it came out so much better. it doesn’t look great in a ponytail – but I had to! The shortened white kimono top was a quick scrap together and here’s the first attempt at hakama pants. I accidentally grabbed the heavier of that navy blue from my fabric drawer, but since i cut the pieces and knew i never do a god job on the first try, overall it turned out decent and even the pleats aren’t great, hey at least a flatiron on the highest setting at least I had some.
(For a real Kaoru doll using the DCSG, I think I’d use a Supergirl- would have to re-root and repaint eyebrows, but she’d have the one grip hand to hold a bokken)
Also this weekend: finished white knee-socks, almost done with a redo of the top for a red dress, finishing shorts for a pj set and a second nightgown. My carpet is covered in scraps of plain and navy fabric.
So here’s the recent doll projects. For a first wig, it’s not terrible. Not good but I’m not discouraged. Troublesome bangs, gaps in the top partings. It’s on the Ivy doll which eventually I will re-root with a light brown, so please ignore the mismatched eyebrows. So you can see the recently made white shirts (plain t-shirt, then the puffy blouse) so the various plaid skirt projects have tops- though they still need back fastenings. Also the second picture has the dress, wide belt, and legging-thingies I cobbled using leftover fabric.
So (since I have freetime the rest of this week), I finally sat down and constructed my very first yarn weft doll wig. And I made some glaring mistakes and the trim job overall but especially the bangs is pretty awful but whatever. Cling-wrap setting the bangs a bit more to hopefully tame this one part. Also I got a cheap needle felting needle so for another First Ever Crafting, used the leftover acrylic yarn fuzz and seeing if I can sculpt it into a needle felt cute thing or another.
working on my first acrylic yarn wig for a doll. Have skullcap done, wrestling with yarn, comb, and flat iron, discovered it worked better to use a small paintbrush to glue to make the wefts. In other news the hell-puppy (that which destroyed my old copy of The Silm) is with me for the next day and she’s still a devourer of things she should not. All my shoes stay locked behind the closet with lids on the bins (I had to order and have delivered a replacement of my newest pair that last time she was here) But this morning it was going into the dirty laundry and chewing up my best bra. ugh~ Not that my dog hasn’t been a pill today – this is pun. she has decided the pill bottles of the garlic oil supplements are the tastiest thing. And after twice getting into the pantry/on the counter to try to eat two bottles worth, she went back into the pantry post-dinner-feeding-time to go after the bottle of biotin pills. Supplements now on a much higher pantry shelf, pantry door closed, goober hound ridiculous and obviously unhappy with the supposed diet she’s on. Can’t wait ‘til saturday to return the hell-puppy
