Stares at the list of Silm-related fic projects I really need to get to one of these days:

  • Faron and Faelindis and their terrible experiences in Angband, complete with flashbacks and their escape during the last hours of the War of Wrath, which really needs to be finished. Include leaving to Tol Eressëa on-board Faron’s sister’s ship and healing in the Gardens of Estë
  • Sequel to that involving all of Faron’s friends taking him on a camping trip mountaineering up the Pelóri. Doesn’t really have a plot at this moment aside from showing that everyone is better now and a lot of the couples got together and are reproducing and/or finding peace-time jobs and hobbies.
  • Bledda’s uncle Ruga shares what he’s been up to in Dor-lómin aka the Underground Railroad of North Beleriand. Annoyed that timeline wise it’s too late to have Aerin as Furiosa or a Splendid Angharad expy and Ruga as Mad Max.
  • which would be a small part of the overall War of Wrath through the eyes of some Vanyar and Bór OCs fic
  • Indulge in more fusion crossover madness like Bain the Noldor Soldier (SOLDIER) falling during a visit to Menegroth and crashing through a cavern roof into the greenhouse garden of one of Melian’s maidens, thus flirting his way into a long distance relationship with said flower girl. Said character also good friends with Celeborn and his equally silver-haired brother. Cue turn for the tragic when he sacrifices himself in the dungeons of Tol Sirion in place of his best friend and fellow country boy Fain (thanks to blonde hair via Vanyar mom, said soldier who only joined the Noldor Rebellion in an attempt to impress the popular girl back home, is one of the last of the twelve to die, right before Finrod – and while Sauron doesn’t immediately know/kill Finrod once captured, as having more than one blonde elf in the party confuses him.) Resist urge to make another character recite lines from Loveless. Blame E3 news for the renewed desire in this tangle of silliness.
  • The next chapter of “Ingwë of Cuiviénen”. By the Belain I really need to get on this. Oromë meet-and-greets, does storytime, and introduces animal husbandry. Hunting with the Minyar. Indis finally gets her name. Imin, Iminyë, and Ravennë finally get screen-time. Gloss over the Valar assault and defeat of Melkor while Elwë plays around with the Maiar hounds guarding Cuiviénen.
  • Ravennë reflecting during the Great Journey, gets flower from Indis, decides to officially marry Ingwë in the most low-key yet symbolic wedding imaginable, tangent on the invention of felt
  • That AU where Ingwë and Elwë swap places. Sauron in revenge enthralled Ingwë in Nan Elmoth, the Minyar under Ravennë’s leadership stay to look for him for a little bit (she’s aided by her in-laws and must fight off political rival of her brother – aka the Minyar Matriarchy fic) while the Noldor and Lindar go to Aman. Ingwë returns with aid of giant singing nightingale Melian, together they cross the Helcaraxë to reunite with everyone and learn what the other two tribes were up to. Single father widower Finwë with bratty son Fëanor still exists, but his rivalries are with the other elven princes of Aman, aka the huge extended Lindar royal family, as the Third Tribe has branched off and basically covered all of Valinor, with Erenion and Dan’s branches in the interior (what would be the Nandor and Mithrim Sindar living where the Vanyar would), Olwë and Círdan’s people up and down the coast, a far better adjusted Eöl as an apprentice under Mahtan and Aulë (bitter competitive genius rivals with Fëanor), and Elwë as the bachelor uncle and over-all king in Tirion. Indis is no longer in love with Finwë who abandoned them, ends up courted and loved by Nerdanel (the temptation to gender-flip just to excuse the insertion of Indis’s children into this universe is very strong) Elwë and Melian still fall in love, Valar have a long debate over this and establish the Statute of Elwë and Melian. (Lúthien hears the call when Men are born, sneaks off and sails across the sea against her parents and Valar commands to fight Morgoth and aid the Seccnd-born. Still meets Beren)
  • AU scenario where Ingwë and Ravennë hook up before Alako dies
  • Young Bucks of Cuiviénen short fic where Ingwë and Finwë come over to help Elwë’s village have a ‘barn-raising’ to build one of the Nelyar storehouses
  • AU where Míriel makes the better decision for herself and everyone and refuses Finwë’s proposal, realizing she has neither the temperament nor interest as Queen of the Noldor (never admit a change of mind, mistake, or compromise out of stubborn pride is the last quality a ruler needs)and focuses her energies and time on her handiwork. No Fëanor (HUZZAH), Morogth has to work harder to find a target to disrupt the peace of Aman (relaxed Teleri rebellion), rivalry between Noldor craftswomen Nerdanel and Míriel on who is the greatest creative elf ever (reactionary versus avant-garde)…
  • something shippy for Míriel/Daeron
  • Princess Tutu in Second Age Valinor – the creation of ballet theatre
  • …I know I have other plot bunnies floating around
  • Vagabond Gondor

Only a few more books on my Vorkosigan saga re-read (alas i cannot find a copy of either Brothers in Arms or C.Vorpatril’s Alliance) and then I have to pick which next series to re-read.

Debating between Codex Alera (aka fantasy Romans with bending powers/elemental pokemon, also cameo expies of Aral and Cordelia) or Ring of Fire/1632 (aka rural US town dumped into the Thirty Years War sprawling alternative history epic, also known as hillbillies hate anti-antisemitism and here’s a bunch of new things like communism)…

Well, the ‘”Squidboy in Angband” fic is still pretty disjointed, but I’m starting to add or expand some segments and link a little together – I’ve more of the escape written, at least. Incomplete, it’s already almost as long as “Hunter-bold and Maiden-brave.”

Under names I still need to make a Sindarized version, I’ve covered about everyone but Wex Pyke. And now to wonder if Elves can be born mute…

And, yay, I have the silly working title for it now, which is always a plus. Though like ‘Iron-grip and Ragebunny’, it will need a more dignified and tonally-appropriate title by the end.

I really want to post this over at AO3 so that there’s a easy-to-read and official final version. However I’m worried yet again what to tag it, if to put it in both categories or tag it with any of the ASoIaF characters. The setting is firmly and solely Silmarillion, and the characters are OC fusions (though they have more resemblance to their canon counterparts than “Hunter-bold and Maiden-brave”). Which then makes me feel guilty, because this is a pretty rare-pair, and here I am only able to write anything for it if set in a completely separate universe. I think I’ll limit it to an author’s note, not even sure if to straight-up put in the summary. And then I have the other issue of what Silmarillion characters to tag, because all the important canon characters are limited to flashbacks or word-of-mouth. Gwindor is probably the most important of those. But aside from a quick cameo of Finarfin at the end, the story is all elven OCs in the lower levels of Angband, some orcs, and said elves thinking mostly about other OCs.

(≖﹏≖) Either needs a beta most of all, or for me to stop fretting and over-thinking and stalling on it…

Taking a break from writing should-not-be-this-difficult parts of the current fic by goofing off in the various doll-makers trying to recreate the three little ladies of Minas Tirith/Tol Sirion. I should just break down and sketch them, as I have very clear ideas for them via various fan-art and extant portraits, plus some drawings I’ve already done…

Today’s mixed bag:

Yay! getting somewhere in the Theon Faron in Dreadfort Angband fic. Almost done with what’s roughly section two, will post soon (and debating if when posted to AO3 if to even tag the crossover element)

Boo! Debating if I need to post another general broadcast that my sigils are NOT canon, are my own art, I’d like credit for them if you please, and if I should even care anymore. And yet again it’s the Fëanorian sigils.

Gonna go boil some eggs and remind myself not to write-off fandom but to keep enjoying the corner I’ve carved for myself.

Thinking about making a big ‘master-post’ of sorts with all my various clothing head-canons for Middle-earth, going from Cuiviénen to the variations on the tudor!elf look of First Age Valinor versus Beleriand and what the Edain have and then Númenor and later. And what fabric materials and popular motifs If so, I probably need to link a lot of images, though wondering if should try to draw anything and if I start adding pictures where would it end…

But i was wondering if to make such a post and put everything together…

Grumbling my way through trying to write more of the ‘Faron and Faelindis in Angband’ fic (as ‘Bân and Fân’s Excellent Adventure’ aka the ‘Pelóri Fic, Sort-of’ is a sequel to that – or maybe more accurately the third in a trilogy?) and trying to make Faron’s timeline work without being too repetitive or illogical, but still hit the narrative rough parallels of Robb and Theon. Namely that Aglar (Robb) has to go with Finrod during the Dagor Bragollach to get stuck in the Fens of Serech, get injured shoulder, rescued by Barahir, and Aglar to feel Craban (Bran) die via oswarë and believe that Failossion (Jon Snow) is also dead. This basically covering the Crag and thinks Bran and Rickon dead, so that back in Nargothrond Aglar is healed and finds comfort/aka elven wedding with newly arrived Faelineth (Jeyne Westerling) who is one of the refugee/followers that came with Celegorm and Curufin (Lannisters). Faron has to be in Nargothrond for at least some of this ten-year period, though has to go visit family in either Brithombar or Eglarest before Beren arrives, thus missing out on the volunteering to help and thus dying in werewolf dungeon (RW). Faron makes it back (fifteen minutes late with Starbucks) and attaches himself to Gwindor’s party- will join during the Nirnaeth and get captured in that mess. Unlike Gwindor, will not escape, next time he’s reunited with anyone from Nargothrond and learns of its fall is the arrival of Faelindis (Jeyne Poole). Wondering if to work in Gil-galad’s shipped down south to Círdan with his aunt/Orodreth’s wife and have Faron as one of the escorts, as to explain one of Faron’s absences from the city, plus as his father is a Falathrim lord, it practically demands it. Just, when to place Gil-galad’s fostering?

But yeah, deciding to make Faron one of the Fen Brotherhoood, thus making his exclusion via misfate from the Ten Companions more poignant and glaring.

(This whole section is repetitive harping on I should have died with Aglar in the dungeons 😉 Twist the knife)
