Hey, anyone have a suggestion of a recipe for using up a bottle of clementine chili flavoured Italian soda? Drink turned out to be more disgusting to me than I assumed (one of those whim purchases to try every offered flavor). I’m thinking maybe using it in a meat glaze/marinade. But anyone have an actual recipe idea?

I know soda marinades are A Thing, but I’ve never tried it myself. You could maybe modify an orange chicken marinade recipe, that seems like the right flavor profile.

Yeah- I have a recipe from my mom who got it from …somewhere, where you make the absolute best baked whole chicken by using a can of Coke-Cola. Pour the soda over the chicken to create this great carmalized glaze, use can itself to prop up the cleaned chicken, bake in oven, voila.

But yeah, I figure there has to be plenty of sweet orange and chili sauce/flavor recipes out there – just not sure what exact meat and culinary region to follow.

Now I’m waiting for it, if I can have the same few people I interact w/ over there and a plethora of fan content to search and track via tags that work

To be honest, I can see DW, if they so wished, updating their site to allow for a sort of LJ/Tumblr hybrid that has the best of both worlds. Because why not? Their site is pretty good. I have no problems with it. It’s like LJ without the plethora of issues it’s had over the years. I don’t see why we would be looking for a brand new platform when there’s always something that’s great and already in use (and was THE home of fandom (at least LJ was) before Tumblr and its generation of fans.) So if I could grant a wish and have it come true, it would be for DW to figure out a way to tinker with their code to make this a hybrid site that’s maybe on the simpler side but has everything you need:

• I thought Tumblr was a blogging (albeit a microblogging) site, and it’s also a social media site, and that being said I’d like to feel there is interaction between me and my friends on here. (we use Fanmail, but still!) And I want it to be with a certain number of people, people I choose. This whole thing of just tossing random posts into my dash makes me roll my eyes. I probably won’t mind some of the adds – I like the Tombstone ones and rarely some other ones, but most of the time I’d rather not have this shit. Heck, if I wanted to find more people to follow, I can look through communities, see how seems cool and nice, or participate in friending memes.

• Privacy. Because instead of having a personal blog and a fandom blog and yet another blog for that other fandom, you can have it all in one and personally control each and every post as you make, declare which group or groups can see each entry. This would help us loads. No more vagueblogging that then leads to paranoia among everyone thinking, “are you talking about me? D: ” reactions, and the person can feel a little more comforted that they’re not spied on (as much.)

• Full control of your own content. Period.

• Icons! Yeah, LJ eventually had ads, but before we voluntarily gave money for exchange for extra goodies to enjoy on the site, like more icons. I remember getting a year’s subscription for a friend who was just stoked over it. And can you imagine all the expert gif makers and photoshop experts on Tumblr getting their hands at those lovely 100×100 works of art once more. :’) (I still collect them, because I have an actual true private journal on a MacJournal program on my desktop, and I programmed it so I can have little icons with each new entry, hahahaha! But you don’t see them as much. I miss them.)

• Tags on LJ/DW are great because they are limited only to your own journal and I would like to keep them that way for sake of organization (so I can tag Maglor in fics tormenting him and not worry about fans coming at me with pitchforks.) But it would be nice to have a way to also have the entire site see that tag (such as if I drew a picture of Arwen), which again may be something one can code into the privacy settings of each individual entry. Although we do still have newsletters on LJ, it can be a hassle trying to locate every last link, and the larger fandoms will probably just lose their minds.

So that’s what I hope we can achieve. I don’t know if it is possible to merge the codes, but I would be interested to see the DW staff have a go at it. 🙂

Especially that tag on the private versus site wide – which again just having what LJ had on the private post versus visible to friends versus visible to anyone. That I miss. I have(had) a LJ account since 2004 or something I think, but I stopped using it many years back, nor was I using it for any real fandom purpose – only had three or so friends on it and followed a Capslock_community. The DW I have (also dormant) for Sims2 stuff. So if say DW was able to get the tracked open tag system so that at least for posts flagged as community open I could see and share images and gif sets without having to search everyone’s personal blogs, that would be nice.

I got excited each time LJ upped the avatar limit 😀 Annoyed that I only had those 100X100 limits to make my own icons, but I miss having the ability to switch icons, as I used that as a personal tagging system as well (and the WoT reader in my found it fun)

The picture hosting thing on DW is one of my issues, one of things I loved when first getting into tumblr. That and having the Rich Text without having to swap back to html and back and forth.

Ingwion

Ingwion is not a terrible cook, but his efforts are definitely inferior. Partially because he is a prince, but mostly because while Ingwë learned how to cook for himself, he was never great at it, and therefore could not teach his son in the hallowed art of passed-down-from-father-to-son elven cuisine (why do people throw out LaCE when there’s such fun things to twist?) Ingwion likes his meat so well done they are hard to chew -nostalgia prevents him for realizing how terrible it tastes, like his fry cakes shouldn’t have the oily consistency of a deep-fried Twinkie. Oh yeah- oily foods? Yeah, loves them. Superior elven genetics and a strenuous exercise regiment of climbing and Vanyar competitive athletic events counter-act the consequences of his diet – but he loves his fried sweet rolls and oily dishes.

Forgive me sister for I have sinned. It has been seven days since I last read manga.

Anyway this page came out of nowhere and punched me in the face, wow. He has…so many issues…and yet he is….SUCH A GREAT PERSON :’)))

That Aoshi guy seems like he’s gonna come back and have another go, I’m…not sure if I’m looking forward to that or not? It should be a good, well thought out fight (seriously I love how they think through the other person’s technique and how to counter it). But also Kenshin might get beaten up – or WORSE, he might get SAD D:

Gonna have to reply this way, if you don’t mind –

I’m too tired to have coherent thoughts but needed to reblog this because MY BABY and YES THIS and also I really need to get a wig and drag out my Battousai!Kenshin cosplay again, I miss it

OKAY SO

(It’s Jess, I thought I ought to put this on my anime blog :P)

Yay Jess – more replies 😀

RuroKen isn’t totally realistic, because yeah James Bond-y level action shuts and you’ll see some various styles/things and some super-villain esque level stuff – I mean, Jin’eh and his heart-stopping eyes isn’t totally realistic, but you believe and go with it, and that’s about as magical ki and abilities go. But things like Hannya’s optical illusion punches, yes. The author stays clever.

Sano is so great, and he does make this foil where he’s honest and straightforward, he has connections to the criminal underbelly from his street fighting days but it’s like deceit goes against his very core. IDK has to do with his backstory (that that the author goes into it, pulls out that black stain on the hero’s side), that he hates corruption and those in power and he’s not wrong to feel that anger (and this will pop up again) but that overarching theme of not being consumed by that anger or lashing out at the wrong targets, to work to improve lives and work through that survivor’s guilt (Good Lord, survivor’s guilt describes the underlying motive of a third the cast…)

Kaoru not fighting against Kanryuu (and getting pushed to the sidelines fight-wise) is definitely a common valid complaint and one of the weaknesses/bothers me compared to FMA and later works. It does get addressed and a bit rectified later and in other versions – the 90s anime had Kaoru go with Yahiko, and later around the time of the first live action movie the author went back and did this sort of an AU project that gave her more on-screen fights. And the author admits that Kaoru in-universe is one of the best kendo users, would sweep through any tournament – but that she’s surrounded by these inhumanly strong fighters like Kenshin and his enemies from the war. But her insight into their fighting styles, even if she can’t personally match their experience, doesn’t go away. And why I like the Tokyo-based arcs where we visit these other dojos and get a sense of Kaoru’s daily routines and the world she inhabits where the other teachers and students really respect her and her skills, even if she feels she’s only an assistant dojo master.

Yahiko – yeah he’s the kid appeal character, the substitute for the target audience (this was written w/ preteen boys in mind; it just happened to recent a HUGE secondary demographic), but that he isn’t the viewpoint character. The story does focus on Yahiko’s growth, physically as well and mentally, and it does by having Yahiko admire and learn from the rest of the cast – Kenshin, Sano, Kaoru, here are your his role models. And he grows on you, or at least did for me. I admit, I will forever hold a soft spot in my heart for the little brat that for all he teases Kaoru and doesn’t initially believe/respect her skills, he does become her earnest student (and Yutaro highlighting Kaoru-the-teacher and his cute crush on her and Yahiko’s seething jealousy). And that when the yakuza tried to shame him by taunting him about his mother becoming a prostitute, bless that little street punk for shouting back ‘so what? I’m proud of her, she did want she had to so we could survive’, that her sacrifice was equaled to a samurai death in battle.

Oh man, the Raijuta arc~  Tool is right. I love how in the author notes, Watsuki admits that the character started out supposed to be intimidating, but in the end was such a putz. Asshole too, but this poser.

Oooh, the next two in the volume is a another short arc I like and then the one-shot the author did before RuroKen. I love that one-shot so much, and it has a call-forward/easter egg to RK.

And yes, the live action doesn’t have absolutely perfect casting, but damn if a lot of choices weren’t perfect, especially translating to the screen, and the actor who played Kenshin was a big reason why and the music ~♥~ RuroKen has always had great music/acknowledged as superior soundtracks, the anime and live action both.

Seriously though, a dollar is buying 4 reais rn…. Just some Information

IF IT DOESN’T, IT CERTAINLY SHOULD, MA’AM!!

No lie, Brazil is the top of the short list of ‘countries in South America I want to visit’ (other lists include ‘East Asia = definitely South Korea and Taiwan, idk go with my mom to the Phillipines because her reaction to how things have changed in thirty years would be as much fun as the visit itself’)

I’ve used up my out-of-state trips with the last two, at least for this year. But I’ve been bit by the travel bug once more 😀

BUT YES!

So glad you are really the series, and sharing your thoughts. And Kenshin ruined my for a lot of protagonists, shonen or otherwise, because yes, here is your older and very experienced veteran, who looks back on what he has done – aka killed a lot of people – and knows that despite his reasons back then -trying to bring about a new world where life would be better for everyone – it doesn’t change the fact that he is was an assassin. That he’s filled with so much self-loathing that doesn’t end up wallowing on-screen angst in part because he believes in and treasures this optimistic belief in the goodness of others. That his personal suffering doesn’t equal out the suffering he caused, but to take those skills and dedicate his life to helping others and easing their suffering. (and again, such issues and the dealing/healing of his come up in later arcs)

The Kanryuu arc is the best of the first third without a doubt for this theme between Kenshin and Megumi about atonement (and other reasons too).

I like that I don’t have problems understanding the flights in RuroKen, and that there’s often this little elements of counter-moves and different strategies and it doesn’t stray too far into ‘kung-fu magic’ (i mean, yeah laws of physics get rather pretzel-like, but it pretends to not be outright magic – ignore the force of a blunt object at lethal speeds being not lethal, medicine back then could handle broken bones better that inflection rises of open wounds, or at least that’s our hand-wave)

Aoshi. Oh poor precious baby Aoshi. I won’t count it a spoiler that yep, you’re right, he will return in some fashion or another, and there are sad feels. And it’s great that he (and others) are here as characters that are almost matches to Kenshin in skill, and that the duels are as much between philosophies and personal outlooks. Fandom jokes about Kenshin as a warrior therapist and the Hiten Mitsurguri style as weaponised counseling exist for a reason. But Aoshi, he’s one of my favorite characters, and it started with ‘hey, a smart villain’ but really because with ‘oh no, his squad of wacky grotesque villain underlings are really loyal to him and that devotion is reciprocal, he sacrificed his personal opportunities to try to take care of his men/ not abandon them’ -and then Kanryuu and the Gatling gun and leave me to die~~ (he reminds me of a dark!Roy Mustang in a way. Speaking of which Mustang and Riza and the others from the Ishval War gave me a lot of Kenshin feelings). But yeah…I named the LotR fusion version of Aoshi Túrin. because.

Let’s see, other thoughts/questions: what do you think of the rest of Kenshin’s group? And feel free to send any other notices about parts that illicit feels. 😉

(live-action Kenshin a++ casting)

HEGET OMG this looks like Ms Frizzle’s jewelery box…in the best possible way, of course 😀 I am EXTRA jealous of the multicolor mouse earrings!

These are cats, actually (though I do have a pair of gold mouse/rats with dangling tails) – though the rat bracelet matched perfectly (and I have tons of cat necklaces too). And yes, my aim to have a Frizzle-like arrayment of appropriate themes.

THE CHRISTMAS ONES… THE WATERMELON ONES OMG…

Christmas is the easier holiday to fine tacky charm bracelets- though I have bats and cats and witch’s hats for Halloween – 4th of July/American Independence is hardest and one I want most, after Star Wars (OH HOW I WANT VADER OR MINI DEATH STAR OR X-WING EARRINGS TO WEAR W/ ALL MY T-SHIRTS). I wear one of the two sets of British necklaces on that day though, to be horribly ironic (and it’s a personal tradition).

The pineapples were too big to make into earrings, alas!

That’s an interesting headcanon for Eol! But wait, Edhellos does what? hahaha

It’s the head-canon story I’ve talked about in this story (and technically this is the beginning). That Eöl’s parents – Elmo’s second daughter and her ex-Avari husband – get captured while they and the rest of the Eglath are searching for Elu, get the mind-wipe/mind-rape/proto-orc treatment and when baby!Eöl finds them, they try to drag him to Angband/attack him. It leaves him traumatized to say the least, but a passing dwarf rescues him (by killing his zombie parents, pretty much), takes him home, and eventually Eöl returns to the elves while also clearing up that the dwarves of Nogrod and Belegost are allies. But some nasty abandonment and mistrust issues. And I should write the whole thing out; makes a good Halloween theme prompt fill (and after Squidboy, i think I might be able to tackle a horror/thriller snippet)

The Edhellos (and Angrod fluff) is this thing: Hinnies and Mules. It’s still unfinished, and I need to.

That’s def my headcanon too though!

“South of Ard-galen the great highland named Dorthonion stretched for sixty leagues from west to east; great pine forests it bore, especially on its northern and western sides. By gentle slopes from the ‘plain it rose to a bleak and
lofty land, where lay many tarns at the feet of bare tors whose heads were higher than the peaks of Ered Wethrin
; but southward where it looked towards Doriath it fell suddenly in dreadful precipices.” [Ch 14]

The Ered Wethrin are the mountains of southern and eastern Dor-lómin, where Fingolfin’s fortress of Eithel Sirion is. So the rocky outcroppings (not even the mountains) are at a higher altitude that everything west of them. Which should be anyway, considering it was easy for Túrin and everyone else to climb into and out of Dor-lómin without mention of special singular passes, whereas Dorthonion has only two routes. And misty mountain region says to me shallow and worn hills- things tall enough to have the blue hazy cloud cover of the Appalachia – but Dorthonion is Scotland on steroids without the sea coast.
