tagged by @heckofabecca. Favorites meme. Oh crap. I can’t do these because I am indecisive and picky – I can say what I like at a given moment and what I decidedly dislike, but concrete favorites…..
name: classified
nicknames: online? heget
zodiac sign: Virgo
height: 5′0″(5′1″ give me this)
nationality: American. I was born in Washington D.C., I think I get extra USA points for that
favorite fruit: used to be Granny Smith apples, uh, watermelon
favorite season: What geographic location are we talking about? Back up in the Mid-Atlantic East Coast or Pacific Northwest, it might be summer. Here in South Texas? Early spring around March is when bluebonnets start appearing all over the hillsides, but then September is Hawk Migration and November is when it finally starts noticeably cooling off. Sub-tropics autumn is not the fall you see posts about with fancy changing leaves and crisp cold weather (heck winter is still averaging in the mid 60s-70s) But then while I like the spring and fall seasons- those are also when my sinus infections hit hardest. Okay, look, any season where the high heat plus humidity isn’t completely intolerable when stepping outside (so, like, under 98°F) and it isn’t cold (under 55°F SHUT UP THAT”S COLD)
favorite book: fuuu- you don’t get to do that to me. I can’t even answer favorite book series for a specific genre
favorite color: Navy blue, aqua green and turquoise, coral and deep reds and also pumpkin orange, forest and olive greens, whites and rich browns, only a certain shade of pink, some purples- I like neutrals and jewel tones more than pastels and loathe neons
favorite animal: Siamese cats and certain sight hounds
coffee | tea | hot cocoa: sugary creamer with coffee (my coffee is usually the color of cardboard), sweet teas (with lemonade and only about half as sweet as usual Southern Sweet tea)
average sleep hours: …6? But I nap during the day on weekends, and sometimes I get 9 hours. But 6-7 sounds about right.
cat or dog person: Look, a whippet acts more like a cat than a dog and a siamese is not a typical cat. I want that animal that behavioral wise is some weird hybrid
favourite fictional character: AHAHAHA … please don’t ask for a real answer for this one
number of blankets you sleep with: I have a giant throw blanket that i usually sleep cocooned in on-top of my comforter, I’m weird. Only when it gets cold enough do I sleep under the comforter and sheets
blog created: 2013
number of followers: Discounting pornbots and the like? It hovers under 350 so the real number is probably at most 300
random fact: I wear bifocals and have worn glasses since I was five. Um, I only have piercings on my earlobes, no tattoo or desire for one, and I have never permanently dyed my hair or permed it. (as aggravating as it can be, my hair is also my vanity and it’s a very rich brown that’s almost black and has- when it behaving- beautiful curls)
My gf: mimes are to clowns as dogs are to wolves
Me, trembling: what
I love clown shitposting as much as the next person, but for once my weirdly specific college education of mimes has a chance to shine because the opposite is actually true. Modern western clowning is directly descendant from ancient greek pantomime. Clowns are actually the watered down, domesticated funny makers to the raw stylings of mimes.
…Man, I’d even make fun of myself for adding this comment on.
You look at a mime and tell me that doesn’t have the raw, untamed energy of a wolf. The clown is the tamed household one, colorful and designed to warm hearts and bring chuckles and entertain. But a mime…..that is something savage and unbridled from the wilderness. You ask a mime to make you laugh and it will go for the jugular. Not to say a clown is unable to go feral, just the opposite. It’s just that approaching a mime in its natural habitat without due respect, expecting it to be the same creature as your auntie’s pedigree purebred Bozo, will be the last mistake you ever make.
Additionally, mimes within a tradition tend to be fairly uniform in appearance. Of course, this isn’t to say that there is no regional or individual variation among mimes! But pigmentation and patterning tends to be simple and stark and the physical type hews close to human norms, allowing the mime some degree of camouflage in his natural environment. Physical agility and strength is selected for; a mime that cannot pull an invisible rope or descend a flight of imaginary stairs will not survive long in the wild.
Clowns on the other hand display a dizzying array of impractical features, selected for the viewer’s entertainment rather than to benefit the clown; different schools of clowning may produce individuals who bear little if any visual similarity to one another. Bright colors, busy patterns, and attention-seeking behavior render a clown unable to blend in with their surroundings. Exaggerated physical proportions are common, sometimes to the point of interfering with the clown’s ability to perform basic tasks without aid! And most clowns lack their mimic cousins’ finely tuned fight or flight instincts; a clown is just as likley to attempt to befriend a potential threat as to escape or try to fend it off.
Clowns, then, clearly show the hallmarks of a domesticated creature, and like dogs, a domesticated creature with incredible variety within the population, from sturdy working types such as the rodeo clown, to ancient show types with well-defined breed standards such as the various characters of the commedia dell’arte, to social companion types such as birthday clowns. We even see a parallel to the much-maligned and misunderstood “aggressive” dog breeds in the unjustly feared “psycho” or “monster” clown – including the tendency for other types of clowns to be misrepresented as monster clowns by easily startled humans.
Rurouni Kenshin Hokkaido Hen begins on September 4th!
Last June, Jump opened applications for those who want to be Watsuki-sensei’s assistants for the manga. The new arc will be a continuation of the original series. ^^x
On the ridiculous dog situation (shuffled between various family members due to people out of town for various reasons or roommate issues), while I no longer have to worry about the puppy that eats shoes, bras, and old copies of The Silmarillion- last night was pulling the tiny Pomeranian out of the corner where he had gotten stuck to a sticky mouse trap and trying to rinse the glue off his legs and belly. At least my dog, the overweight harrier, can’t get into all the pills and supplements anymore (it was amusing with the garlic oil pills, but then she went after prescription pills).
Does anyone else just get like really stubbornly indifferent towards a popular character? Like you don’t feel hateful but you feel yourself giving less fucks and falling deeper into fuck deficit every time people gush about how great they are and its kinda like being at a party where everyone else is having a good time and you’re awkwardly standing in the corner with the underappreciated dog.
Thought I’d take a moment to post a piece of my own that I’ve been working on, that I’m pretty happy with! Still a few minor tweaks, and needs some typography, but as a travel poster for Garth Nix’s Sabriel I think it’s doing pretty okay! Let’s see what tumblr thinks!
This is the reason people (especially dceu haters) have a hard time grasping the fact that more people have died in Avengers, GotG, and AoU where several city blocks and a city and a WHOLE COUNTRY were demolished. than it ever did in MoS where it was clearly shown in BvS that the damage was limited to no more than a couple city blocks.
Because the common ordinary people in mcu are no more than moving props within the narrative, they only existed as background numbers but were almost NEVER focused on nor acknowledged. The opposite is true for dceu, where the everyday people have a consistent presence within the narrative. they would react accordingly to the incidents happening around them, they have differing emotions, they have dialogues and would express opinions, THEY WERE ALWAYS ACKNOWLEDGED.
the suffering of a few people the dceu narrative “acknowledged as people” would ALWAYS weigh more heavily in people’s mind, subconsciously or otherwise, than the death of thousands or millions of background phantoms the mcu narrative gloss over. And this is another one of the many reasons I would ALWAYS prefer dceu.
So here’s the recent doll projects. For a first wig, it’s not terrible. Not good but I’m not discouraged. Troublesome bangs, gaps in the top partings. It’s on the Ivy doll which eventually I will re-root with a light brown, so please ignore the mismatched eyebrows. So you can see the recently made white shirts (plain t-shirt, then the puffy blouse) so the various plaid skirt projects have tops- though they still need back fastenings. Also the second picture has the dress, wide belt, and legging-thingies I cobbled using leftover fabric.
So (since I have freetime the rest of this week), I finally sat down and constructed my very first yarn weft doll wig. And I made some glaring mistakes and the trim job overall but especially the bangs is pretty awful but whatever. Cling-wrap setting the bangs a bit more to hopefully tame this one part. Also I got a cheap needle felting needle so for another First Ever Crafting, used the leftover acrylic yarn fuzz and seeing if I can sculpt it into a needle felt cute thing or another.
